Diamond Creek

Diamond Creek GC hole 7 and Hanging Rock Mountain

The man most responsible for defying private-club convention—while running a first-class operation—is John McNeely, who partnered with Wayne Huizenga to found Diamond Creek in 2003. (Huizenga also owns Frederica, on St. Simons Island, Georgia.) In his previous life, McNeely was a golf professional at a number of top private clubs, including New York’s Winged Foot (where he was tutored by the legendary Claude Harmon), Thunderbird in the California desert, The Floridian, River Oaks in Houston, and Grandfather Golf and Country Club, just a few miles from Diamond Creek in the verdant mountains of western North Carolina.

Elk River Club

Nothing quite compares to the quietness of a cool evening spent gazing out across the majestic mountain landscape, set aglow by golden rays peering down upon the signature Jack Nicklaus golf course. The evening presents itself amidst the rising smoke of a crackling fire and the familiar sounds of friends and family gathered round to laugh and share stories late into the starry night. This is Elk River. And for many, it just feels like home.

Golfweek Magazine is among the many publications that have ranked Linville Ridge highly and placed this course among their favorites. With the course renovation by Bobby Weed, Golf, Inc. Magazine honored the Linville Ridge golf course with a Renovation of the Year Competition award.
